We start September with a new guest post from Brianne Walter:

Whether you want to promote your product, build an online portfolio or just want to share your personal experiences, you need traffic on your blog or site to make it a grand success. A majority of visitors are brought to your site through major search engines like yahoo, Google and Bing. When an user types in a keyword in the search box, the Google search results display millions of sites related to that particular keyword. But most of the times, visitors tend to click on those sites that appear on the first 3 pages of the search results. Hence it is important to get your site or blog displayed in top results of search engine. Here are some SEO tips that help you rank better in the search engines.

Write a catchy title
A catchy title will bring visitors to your site who are interested to see what you have to say or offer. Make your title attractive and motivating. Just by looking at the title of your post in the search engines, the readers should be able to guess the kind of information they have in store on that post for them.

Write meaningful content
Unique, interesting, fresh and reader-friendly content is first and foremost. Each and every article you compose must be valuable and informative that visitors will want to read. If visitors don’t find your content interesting, they are likely to quit your site and never come back. In addition to being interesting, your content should also be of high quality. In other words, it should be well formatted and free from spelling and grammatical errors. Also, it should motivate the readers to share it with their friends.

Keywords are still the key
If you want your site to get displayed in the top search results for certain keywords then incorporate those keywords throughout your content in the right way. Include them in your title, first paragraph, URLs, images and last line of your post. Don’t just stick to one keyword, use all the possible keywords and scatter them all around your post.

But be careful, don’t stuff your blog or site with keyword or the search engine may consider them as spam and your site may be blocked out from the search engines. Simply add the relevant keywords as they come naturally. And make sure your keyword density should not be more than 2 percent.

Quality links
It is important that your blog is referenced by reputed websites of similar niche, as this offers more credibility in the eyes of search engines. In other words, it is better to get a few links from reputed sites than to have hundred links from bad neighborhoods. If your site is linked from undesirable sites such as link farms, then it will have serious consequences on your search engine rankings.

So by linking to reputed and trusted websites, your website’s outgoing profile becomes stronger. To grab quality links, post your content to authorized directories like ezine.com, guest posts. Also, set aside some time to comment on other blogs in your niche and get links from them.

Image Alt Tag
Indeed images represent a thousand words but search engine bots don’t read images but only consider the alt tag which is an alternative description of the image. Hence you should add meaningful description of an image along with the keyword in the alt attribute. Some users may have slow Internet connection and downloading of images may take time. In such case, the alt tag helps the user to know what the image is about and make him wait for the complete loading of that image.

Interlink your pages
Bloggers are so much worried about getting links from other blogs that they overlook interlinking their own pages. If you want to increase your website traffic then link back to yourself. This can do wonders for you. Whenever you create new content add a link of the related article you had previously written. This helps in increasing the page views on your post and makes it easier for search engine bots to crawl deep into your blog.

Social media interaction
Today, social networking channels have made it easy for people to share information. It is also an inexpensive way of ranking your site in search results and makes it stand out in the crowd. The more people comment, like or tweet on your site the more it counts in the search engine rankings.

Once you apply all these tips to your site or blog, you will be surprised to see your site having better rankings in the search results.
