Use Pagination for Organizing and Archiving Content
When it comes to blogs, pagination helps you to both organize and archive your blog content. When you house all of your posts on one page, it will scroll on and on, endlessly. This is not a user-friendly way to display your posts. Plus, one page containing hundreds of posts will cause the page to load extremely slowly.
Basically, pagination displays a small amount of posts per page. You simple click to move to the next page, to view the next set of posts. This maximizes your crawl depth, making it simpler for search engines to figure out just what content exists within the blog. When paginated properly, archived content is easier to access by search engines as well.
Add Links to Related Articles in Each Post
For SEO purposes, blog content needs to be simple to find, for both users and bots. The more clicks it takes to get to content, the deeper that content is buried. This content tends drop-out of the indexing tasks, or there aren’t enough valuable links for the content to outrank competitors’ articles. From a SEO perspective, these pages are completely useless.
To increase your contents’ find-ability, add links to relevant, related articles at the end of each post. This encourages your audience to keep clicking and continue reading. The practice also increases link equity, helping to improve your blog’s PageRank.
Add Previous and Next Links to Posts
Another method for improving the find-ability of your posts is to add “previous” and “next” links to each post. These links can appear at the bottom or top of the post. Links such as these improve your navigational structure, increasing the amount of time visitors remain on your blog. This is improves the equity of your links, improving your SEO value.
Use Blog Categories Properly
Categories are another factor that effectively help to boost SEO efforts. They help to make finding content easier for your readers. Placing posts in proper categories also helps to increase search engine rankings, as categories add to SEO keywords and structures.
To obtain the best results:
- Limit the amount of categories within your blog. Having too many will cause some categories to have very small amounts of content.
- Assign each post to just one category. Adding posts to multiple categories can lead search engines to believe that your blog contains duplicate content.
Post Titles and Title Tags Should Vary
Many bloggers tend to give their posts a great title. Then, they cut and paste that into title tag section. This practice has no negative impact on your SEO efforts. However, remember that the title tag is the most important piece of SEO-friendly content on your blog. From a SEO standpoint, duplicating the post title and title tag is a waste of SEO resources.
Take advantage of this opportunity to increase the SEO-value of your posts. How does this work? Let’s say that your blog post title is “How SEO Improves Your Blog’s PageRank.” Instead of doing a copy-and-paste in the title tag field, vary the keywords. One good variation would be “improve pagerank with SEO.”
